This year's annual thrift store outing with hostess, Jill Althage, was wonderful as usual. You too can join in the fun next year if you buy a ticket at the 2U Fall Fest.
Regarding the GARDENING SESSION for Saturday, June 1st, the forecast doesn't look great, and if it's raining hard, then we'll have to skip the session. Hoping that it'll be clear and we can weed--the weeds are growing quickly and it'd be good to keep them in check while it's still fairly early in the season. If you have diggers, then please bring them along! Gloves would probably be good, too. Fingers crossed! Please call or text Monica for an update that morning if you are planning on joining. 312.550.3412
FLOWER COMMUNION: Sunday, JUNE 2nd, 10:30am. We will celebrate a uniquely Unitarian ritual, Flower Communion. It's a ceremony that was created by Czechoslovakian Unitarian minister Nobert Capek. He wanted his congregation in Prague to have a ceremony that symbolized that, though they held differing beliefs, they all had gifts and graces they contributed to their church family. That congregation was 3,200 members and nearly 300 children. Norbert Capek believed that, "Religion should, before all else, provide that inner harmony which is the precondition of strong character, good health, joyful moods, and victorious, creative life." And so for our Flower Communion Sunday, please bring a flower or green to contribute to the common arrangement that we will create at the beginning of the worship service. The flowers or greens represent the gifts and graces we each contribute to this congregation. During the service, we will bless the flowers and greens. At the end of the service, you are invited to take home a different flower or green than the one you brought. This symbolizes that there are gifts and graces that we all receive from being part of this congregation. If on the way to church you realize that you forgot to bring a flower or green, please don't distress nor steal one from a neighbor's yard along the way. There will be extra flowers and greens for visitors and anyone who arrives empty-handed. We will also have a New Member Ingathering this service.
2U is once again coordinating a rummage sale on Saturday, June 15th. Anyone wishing to come sell new, gently used or vintage items is welcome to purchase a vendor table for $25. The sale is open to the public and will go from 10am - 4pm. The vendor fees collected will go the church. The money you raise at your individual table is for you to use as you see fit. Space is limited, so please reserve your table soon by contacting Alicia Obando at [email protected].
June 9 - Strategic Planning Report Town Hall after Service At 11:45, join members of the Strategic Planning Committee and Board to discuss and provide input and feedback on 2U's draft strategic plan! This is a wonderful guide for our efforts for years to come! And, we want to know what you have to say about it! This is an informational and discussion meeting, with the final plan to be adopted next fall.
